The Swedish African Neurosurgery Collaboration (SANC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing neurosurgical care in Africa. Our mission is to train general neurosurgeons to become microneurosurgeons and to increase the level of neurosurgical awareness and care. We achieve this through bilateral intraprofessional exchanges in neurosurgery, neuroscience nursing, and related activities between our members and partners in Africa.

Ghana:
Surgical Expertise and Knowledge Sharing
In November 2024, a team of specialized nurses, neurosurgeons, and anesthesiologist various university hospitals in Sweden set out on a mission to Ghana. They were invited by Dr. Totimeh, a neurosurgeon who had been familiar with SANC for several years.
The team stayed at the Accra Medical Center, where they collaborated with local medical staff for two weeks. During this time, they performed surgeries, including intracranial and spinal surgeries, on numerous adult patients.
In addition to the work in the operation room, the team conducted training sessions and education for local doctors and nurses, sharing valuable knowledge and skills.
The experience was not only productive but also fulfilling, as the team built relationships with their local counterparts and they continue to maintain contact.
SANC’s goal is to implement long-term interprofessional solutions that create lasting improvements in neurosurgical care while positively impacting other local healthcare services.
